Last year, Xiaomi made a big splash when it launched the Mix Fold 2 phone. The phone brought serious competition to the foldable phone market. This year, Xiaomi has taken things to the next level. The successor, Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, comes with an elaborate hinge, an improved camera configuration and, most importantly, flagship parameters.

In fact, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is currently the thinnest foldable phone you can buy. This, combined with other flagship-level specifications, makes the Fold 3 a worthy continuation of the line.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF THE XIAOMI MIX FOLD 3 PHONE

As already mentioned, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 brings a lot of improvements over its predecessor. Let's take a closer look at the highlights:

THIN PROFILE

The Mix Fold 2 measured 5.4mm when unfolded, while the phone measured 11.2mm when folded. If you found that impressive, you have to look at the dimensions of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. Xiaomi has made it even thinner than its predecessor!

When unfolded, the Mix Fold 3 measures just 5.26 mm. On the other hand, when folded, the phone measures 10.89 mm. Xiaomi managed to achieve this profile by integrating a vertically stacked motherboard. In addition, the hinge of the device has received a massive improvement.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 comes with a brand new patented hinge that has a total of 198 components. More importantly, the hinge takes up 17% less internal space. The hinge also boasts a three-element structure and a total of 14 micro-joints. The micro-hinges slide under the main flip-up display.

This hinge configuration increases the durability of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 phone. And we must not forget to mention that the hinge is equipped with a carbon-ceramic steel rotating mechanism that makes folding and unfolding smoother.

In addition, the new hinge of the Mix Fold 3 phone supports an opening angle in the range of 45 to 135 degrees. This means that you can use the foldable phone as a mini laptop if you want.

MIX FOLD 3 PHONE DISPLAY 

It's not just the hinge that sets the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 apart from the competition. The phone also impresses them with impressive specifications. For example, displays. Both the internal and external screens of the phone have an OLED E6 display.

The internal panel has a size of 8.03 inches, which brings a resolution of 1960 x 2160 pixels. This panel supports Dolby Vision and HDR 10+. Thanks to these two display technologies, you get an enhanced and fully immersive viewing experience. And since the panel is equipped with Ultra-Thin Glass, you can expect it to be highly resistant to scratches.

And the outer panel is 6.56 inches in size and covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Its brightness reaches up to 2560 nits, so it will offer you a better viewing experience in bright sunlight. And since both displays have a 120Hz refresh rate, all movement on the panels will appear realistic and fluid.

XIAOMI MIX FOLD 3 CAMERA CONFIGURATION 

The Mix Fold 3 folding piece has four cameras on the back. Its primary sensor is a 50 MP Sony IMX800 sensor, which has been given the OIS function. The primary sensor is complemented by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle module. And for zoom manipulation, Xiaomi has integrated a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom capability.

But that's not all! You will also find a 10MP periscope camera on the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. It brings up to 5x optical zoom. And since both telephoto lens modules have OIS, you'll be amazed by the device's image stability and clarity.

In terms of specifications, the main camera of Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has 46mm equivalent, 15mm ultra-wide, 75mm telephoto and 115mm periscope. In short, the phone's camera configuration is more than enough to take perfect pictures.

SOC, BATTERY, RAM AND STORAGE

Xiaomi has equipped the Mix Fold 3 with an 8th generation Snapdragon chipset. As we already knew , this is an overclocked version of the 8 Gen 2 or SoC Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. Thanks to this, the phone can handle basically everything you throw at it. Be it resource intensive apps or AAA games.

To offer you a gaming and work experience without interruption, the Mix Fold 3 smartphone integrates a large 4800mAH battery. It supports 67W wired charging, which can get the battery from 0 to 36% in 10 minutes. Don't like wired charging? The device supports 50W wireless charging, which can charge the phone to 100% in 55 minutes.

In terms of storage and RAM, the base model has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The medium version has 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. And finally, the top-level version got 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

PRICES AND AVAILABILITY

Currently, the Mix Fold 3 is (unsurprisingly) only available in the Chinese market. The basic version costs CNY 8999, which is approximately USD 1240. And the mid-range version costs 9999 CNY, or about 1,377 USD, while the top-end model costs 1,099 CNY, or about 1,515 USD. Xiaomi will also release a special edition soon.

That being said, Xiaomi did not mention global availability as part of the official launch. And we haven't even seen the release of the Mix Fold 2 model on the global market. So there is little chance that the Fold 3 will make it outside the Chinese market. However, if we learn more about the availability of the device, you will read about it here.
