3 New iOS 26 Features You Might Have Missed | iPhone Update

3 New iOS 26 Features You Might Have Missed

While iOS 26 introduces the sleek new Liquid Glass design, it also brings some lesser-known features that deserve your attention. Here are three new iOS 26 updates you might have missed.

Note: iOS 26 is expected to launch in September, but you can join the free public beta now. Just remember to back up your iPhone before installing the beta version.

1. Adaptive Power Mode

iOS 26 adds Adaptive Power Mode, enhancing the existing Low Power Mode to help extend your iPhone’s battery life. This mode makes minor performance tweaks—like slightly lowering screen brightness or extending activity durations—when battery usage is high.

According to Apple:

“When battery usage is higher than usual, iPhone may make small performance adjustments to extend battery life. This may include slightly lowering the display brightness or extending the duration of some activities. Low Power Mode may turn on at 20%.”

This feature is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and later models and is turned off by default. You can enable it anytime in Settings > Battery > Power Mode.

2. Digital Passport in Apple Wallet

iOS 26 lets U.S. users add a digital version of their passport to Apple Wallet. You can use this digital ID for identification at select TSA checkpoints during domestic flights. However, it does not replace your physical passport and cannot be used for international travel.

Apple assures that this digital ID is secure, private, and REAL ID compliant. Besides TSA checkpoints, you can also use it to verify your age and identity in apps, online, and in stores.

3. AirPlay for CarPlay

One exciting addition is the ability to stream videos wirelessly to your CarPlay screen via AirPlay. For safety, video playback will only work when the vehicle is parked, and the iPhone can detect when the car is moving to stop playback.

However, this feature requires automaker support, so it may take some time before it becomes widely available. It is currently unclear whether new cars or hardware upgrades will be necessary.

From Apple’s developer site:

“In-car video: AirPlay video in the car allows people to watch their favorite iPhone videos directly on the CarPlay display while they’re not driving. Integrate CarPlay support with AirPlay video to use this feature in your car.”

Previously, some jailbreak tweaks and beta apps offered similar functionality unofficially, but now Apple is officially enabling it.
